Always a critic

I started off my journalism career as a Communications major at St. Bonaventure University in Olean, NY, doing sports and entertainment reporting for the student newspaper.

I’m tough on myself, and quickly learned that without a music background it would be difficult for me to be successful critic. But I can write from the heart, and my first published newspaper story about Bruce isn’t half bad.

The story, with very little editing, was published in my college newspaper during my freshman year, probably in the fall of 1980, just before I saw him in concert in Buffalo. It is a review of the album, “The River.”

My favorite line:

“Sherry Darling” is the first of many rocking tunes on the album. It begins with the E Street Band laughing and yelling and then it explodes into a bouncy, danceable tune that is sure to be a concert favorite.
